Voters opt for Deroche

AS part of a strategy to keep people interested in Tasmanian racing while the industry was shut down, Tasracing devised a social media event to determine the racehorse of the past decade.

Distributed via its industry website, 32 horses were placed into groupings with two horses pitted against each other at a time in a knockout competition that would lead to two grand finalists.

The finalists were star 3YO filly Deroche and former star filly Hot Dipped. The Deroche team finished with 61 per cent of the final votes.

Deroche this season won five of her seven starts. She won the Carbine Club Stakes, 3YO Magic Millions Classic and placed second in the Group 3 Bow Mistress.

Hot Dipped was a star at two and three winning the horse of the year titles in those categories before injury forced her to be retired to stud.
