Proper fix will take big money
THERE is much discussion about the proposed upgrade of Sandfly intersection, but $7 million is a drop in the ocean for a dangerous intersection. While I applaud the plan to do so, the design has some serious flaws.
Pedestrians crossing the road in the middle while large vehicles are occupying the space and cycling lanes through the intersection are unsafe and not practical.
Bottlenecking the southbound lane will cause congestion and make it more dangerous for vehicles turning into Sandfly Rd, coming from the south. There is no inexpensive fix for this intersection. It needs the proper funds allocated to make it truly safe.
