Ten days of cheer and wonder
TRAVELLING TASMANIA
WE liked the suggestion of a trip around Tassie especially when there were good accommodation deals. COVID consciousness was apparent everywhere and yes, they are doing it tough but optimism prevailed. Special mentions: the little lunch stop at Derwent Bridge was cheerful and welcoming. Patrick’s store in Strahan, filled to the brim with delicious things and daily papers that arrived early. Thank you driver who must set off from Hobart in the middle of the night. There was a beautiful walk to Hogarth Falls and beach beside the Heads. The RACT unit was excellent and happy Hamers had delicious meals.
The best coffee was at the Cart at Zeehan and the municipal toilets were spectacularly clean. Picnic lunch outside at Granville Harbour then a trip on the barge to Corinna Hotel. Captain Les and Melissa were gracious hosts on the Pieman River. The weather was predictable, blue skies one minute, hail the next. The noise of sea eagles having an argument with wedgies was a new experience.
The Tarkine surprised us with its high moorland and mountain ranges. A car picnic lunch below Arthur River while watching huge waves roll in was awesome. Stanley Pub had excellent food. Highfield with immaculate gardens was fascinating.
Dip Falls was worth a diversion, the 208 steps an engineering feat. Boat Harbour had grown but the beach was as beautiful as ever and Surf Club cafe served delicious food. Beauty Point lived up to its name with the mist rising from the Tamar and splendid Jensens. Driving through Scottsdale, Derby and Weldborough was interesting. The lodge at Freycinet was full, wait staff delightful and food excellent.
Highlight was the Pennicott cruise to Wineglass Bay, dolphins racing under the boat. The 10-day trip was a treat, especially the rich green farmland with fields full of cows up North and sheep down the East Coast. What a magic trip.

every time a caravan park has a hissy fit, councils close the areas down. Does Tourism Tasmania want people to see this beautiful state and put the dollars into businesses doing it so tough?
