Cripps reach for the top

Blues out to stop unbeaten run

- RENEE GODFREY

CRIPPS Waratahs will be looking to continue their unbeaten run when they meet Kingston Blues in tonight’s State League netball match at Hobart Netball and Sports Centre.

Cripps hasn’t managed a top four finish for a number of years, but will be hoping for a return to finals this year with its young list of potential stars.

Led by Tassie Magpies duo Alex Vinen at keeper and Ashleigh Probert-Hill through the centre, Cripps has maintained a core group of players from last year and will be looking to familiar connections to help deliver solid ball into emerging talent Lauren Thornbury, who shot an impressive 28 from 29 last week.

Cripps won’t have it all its own way in this week’s match though, as it meets Kingston Blues who are coming off the back of a confidence-boosting win against AYC-Friends Arrows.

Cripps coach Rosalie Navickas is looking forward to the match.

“The girls are really excited to be back out on the court and playing netball.

“We’ve been really pleased to see our younger players who’ve come up from under-19s settle into the team with ease.

“The connections are coming along well and we’re hoping for a good game against Kingston.

“It’s always a tough match and we’re looking forward to the challenge,” Navickas said.

In tonight’s other match, Arrows find themselves in unfamiliar territory, winless from their previous three outings this year. They will be desperate to get their season back on track when they meet St.LukesHealth Karana.

St.LukesHealth is coming in off the back of a 14-goal loss to Cripps but will take heart in a spirited second half picking up two bonus points along the way and will be keen to maintain the same endeavour for all four quarters tonight.

Devon has the tough ask of meeting Cavaliers in its first match back after the season restart and will be hoping to slow down the reigning premiers.
