Jack back to his best in a revival of form

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

RICHMOND fans are loving the revival of big Tassie tiger Jack Riewoldt and his form resurgence of the past week.

In Richmond’s past two games — a win over Brisbane and loss to Port Adelaide — Riewoldt kicked more goals than he did in the previous seven rounds after the AFL reboot from the coronavirus break.

The premiership forward and Coleman Medallist bagged four against the Lions last Tuesday and three against Power on Saturday for a haul of seven in five days.

Before that, Riewoldt had only kicked six goals in seven games.

After the Brisbane game, Riewoldt said: “We felt like we got our brand back, our DNA. There’s plenty of work left for us to do but it’s exciting for the group.

“The way we play, we know the system works and people come in and play their role, and someone’s going to lick the ice-cream and today it was me.”

In the same game, Mitch Robinson was below his damaging best but still had 16 possessions, six marks, one tackle and a clearance.

The Port Adelaide loss hit Riewoldt in the hip pocket.

He was charged with striking Tom Jonas and Tom Rockliff. Both offences were gauged as low impact and attracted a $2500 fine per charge, reduced to $1500 per incident with an early plea.

Sydney forward Jackson Thurlow (15 disposals, five marks, five tackles) was the leading goal scorer in the Swans-Collingwood game at the Gabba on Thursday night.

Thurlow chose a good time to get noticed as his Sydney

contract expires at the end of the season.

He kicked two goals out of Sydney’s six, while all the other goal kickers were singles across both teams.

In the same game, Robbie Fox (eight touches, three marks, three tackles) did his job down back for the Swans by keeping the Magpies forwards starved of meaningful opportunities.

It was a four-point heartbreaker for the Suns against St Kilda at Metricon on Thursday, but Hugh Greenwood (22 possessions, five tackles, seven clearance) showed why the Suns plucked him from Adelaide.

He was the third highest ball-winner on the day and won more clearances across both teams, and Lachie Weller (18 disposals, one mark, one tackle, three disposals) was close behind.
