PANGOLINS: THE WORLD’S MOST WANTED ANIMAL

BBC Earth 614, 8.30pm

While most people have never heard of the humble pangolin, a scaly mammal found in Africa and Asia, they’ve earned an unfortunate status as the most poached and illegally trafficked animal in the world. In this one-hour special, viewers meet conservationist Maria Diekmann, who rescues and rehabilitates pangolins in Namibia. In a bid to better understand the global issues they are facing, she ventures to Vietnam, Thailand and China, delving into the very heart of the crisis, where demand for pangolin products is greatest. In what turns out to be an emotional journey, Maria joins forces with a Chinese megastar to help bring awareness to the plight of the pangolin.
