Tasmanian generosity pulls us through
THANK you, Tasmania, for helping us through the toughest period our business has had to face. In 21 years we have never experienced anything like the shock to our business from the coronavirus pandemic. After a three-month closure, reopening our cruises on July 1 has been a positive step as we look to rebuild a family business and support our loyal team. We could not have done this without federal and state government programs like JobKeeper and payroll tax relief. Most of our visitors come from mainland Australia, so border closures are a huge challenge. However, the health and safety of Tasmanians is more important than my business.
I have been blown away by the kindness and generosity of Tasmanians. Daily messages of support inspire us to push through. Tasmanians have been amazing at getting out and about, businesses are organising charters and we have had support from people joining special events. We have been thinking of ideas such as circumnavigation of Maria and Bruny islands. The next two years will be a long, hard slog as communities work to recover. Tourist and hospitality operators have done a wonderful job in creating experiences just for Tasmanians. Many are trying to be innovative so businesses can hang in there. From the bottom of my heart I thank every Tasmanian for what they are doing to keep Tassie businesses operating. It is making all the difference for our survival.
