Dover on top on wet weekend

- ROB MCGUIRE

HEAVY rain on Saturday afternoon threatened to curtail the second week of the Bowls Tasmania South’s Saturday Pennant season with only three games finalised.

Dover RSL was at home to New Norfolk and won by 13 shots and remains undefeated and on top of the ladder .

After a tight first half with only two shots in the game after 10 ends, Dover RSL’s Roger Dale put on a master class against Wayne Lampkin winning by 13 shots. Dale was ably assisted by consistent bowling from Josh Mazur, Jordy Seabourne and Gary Brown. Rick Ormerod held off Barry Bone by 11 shots. New Norfolk won on the other two rinks. Anthony Briggs defeated Jarrah Allan by seven shots and Kerry Hill beat Robert Drake by four shots.

Buckingham won a tight encounter against Cremorne. Grant Chamberlain defeated Leigh Munnings by nine shots and Isaac Maughan beat Ralph Tieman by the same margin. Cremorne won on the other two rinks. With Paul Hoddy playing well, Pat Hoffman led by 10 shots after five ends and maintained that margin to the finish defeating Todd Oakley by 11 shots. Brad Knight was ably assisted by Phil Ions, beating Andrew Chamberlain by one shot in a cliff hanger. The game between Grant Chamberlain and Leigh Munnings was the last rink to finish with the game in the balance. A great last bowl by Munnings put Cremorne in front however, Chamberlain rose to the occasion to secure a six- shot win for Buckingham.

Beltana secured a hardfought five shot away win over Sandy Bay. Nick Courto set up the win for Beltana easily accounting for Ryan McCoull by 16 shots. Sandy Bay won on the other three rinks with Darren Beattie, Andrew Norris and Keghan Booth all triumphing.

Rain washed out the Glenorchy Rodman- Kingborough and Rosny Park- Brighton games.
