Mackenzie has a great shot at taking out the girls’ amateur title

AN elite field will tee off at Tasmania Golf Club in the 2021 Boys’ and Girls’ Tasmanian Amateur Championsh­ips next Monday.

Of the 39 entries received, 27 hail from states other than Tasmania, the largest contingent ( 19 competitor­s) coming from the proud golfing state of Queensland.

Key Queensland­ers in the boys’ division include Kai Komulainen from Emerald Lakes, Harry Takis from Nudgee and James Goffman from Royal Queensland.

Other leading mainland contenders include Abel Eduard from Victoria and Jeffrey Pullen of NSW.

Local hopefuls include Royal Hobart Golf Club’s Hunter Gillard, Tasmania’s Lachlan White and Launceston’s Jarryd Battle.

Mackenzie Wilson is favourite take out the girls’ division.

However, Wilson will face strong opposition from Royal Hobart Golf Club’s Hallie Meaburn and Ulverstone’s Tailah Mowat.

Leading mainland contenders for the women’s title include Haruhi Nakatani and Sakura Sugiyama from Queensland, and Pantita Phobubpa of Western Australia.

ULVERSTONE’S Tailah Mowat to emerged from a quality field of competitor­s to secure the girls’ division of the Northern Golf Student Championsh­ips on the weekend.

The 16- year- old comfortabl­y won the title on Sunday at the Riverside Golf Club by 11 strokes with a one- over- par round of 74.

Local member and 15- year- old Isaac Roberts collected the correspond­ing boys’ championsh­ip with a two- over- par round of 74.
