Libs pledge sport funds

-

AN extensive revamp of one of Hobart’s most popular sporting precincts would become shovel-ready under a re-elected Liberal government, Elise Archer says.

Ms Archer, a senior Liberal candidate for Clark, has announced a funding pledge of $1m towards stage one of the New Town sports precinct redevelopment.

The investment would go towards the conversion of a bowls green into two additional floodlit netball courts as well as new fencing, synthetic grass and sun protection for bowls players.

“With participation on the rise across several sport and recreation activities, this redevelopment is designed to meet future demand in the community,” Ms Archer said.

“The total cost of the redevelopment is an estimated $20m and will provide a new clubroom and function centre, state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor training facility for cricket, a gymnasium, new change room facilities, improved playing surface, additional indoor netball courts, new reception and car park facility for the whole precinct.” More than 300,000 people use the precinct each year.
