Delta set to play the piper

-

DELTA Goodrem is set to live out her You’re the Voice fantasy, complete with bagpipes.

The chart-topper will put her spin on the John Farnham classic for Saturday night’s Music From the Home Front concert at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

“Even though it’s my own version of the song, it had to have bagpipes,” Goodrem said.

“They’re just iconic. And You’re The Voice is one of my favourite songs of all time.

“I’ve played John Farnham songs pretty much my entire life, so it’s a total honour to sing this.”

Goodrem will open the show, which features performances from Jimmy Barnes, Crowded House, Amy Shark, The Rubens, Vance Joy, Mia Wray, Lime Cordiale, Tina Arena, The Kid LAROI, You Am I, Kate Ceberano, Ben Lee, Gordi and the Royal Melbourne Scrub Choir.

The show will feature a tribute to the late Michael Gudinski — the event was his idea last year as the COVID-19 pandemic started shutting the country down, later spawning a No.1 album.

“It was such a hugely important show last year for the whole music industry,” Goodrem said.

“Michael knew it’s crucial to have a platform like that, and he pushed for music on television.”

The event can be viewed live on Channel 9 from 7.30pm.
