Always there in an emergency
The College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA) is the peak professional organisation representing emergency nurses in Australasia. We actively represent Emergency Nursing, providing a voice for our members and the Emergency Nursing profession, taking a role in both advocacy and in providing important member services, education and support.
Emergency nurses have always been, and continue to be, committed to providing safe and high-quality patient care, and CENA celebrates and supports the important role of Emergency Nursing in the community. This goal has been amplified over recent months in the context of a global pandemic.
CENA is delighted to welcome new Emergency Nursing members from the many frontline nurses and managers working in emergency departments and healthcare environments and our membership includes academics, educators and students in emergency nursing.
CENA membership offers support to Emergency Nurses and provides an important voice in the advancement of the profession of Emergency Nursing.
With the support of our members, CENA will continue to hold our healthcare system to high operational and practice standards that protect emergency nurses, doctors, administrative and support staff and other healthcare workers to ensure ongoing safety, improvements and outcomes for patients and communities.
To help achieve this CENA has developed Emergency Nursing Practice Standards and actively represents Emergency Nursing in governmental and organisational committees to guide policy and strategic direction for emergency care.
CENA members receive additional benefits including; member access to free and discounted education, free access to the Australasian Emergency Care Journal (AUEC), discounted attendance at our annual International Conference for Emergency Nurses (ICEN), research opportunities, access to scholarships and awards, and the opportunity to become a Fellow of the College.
This year the 18th International Conference for Emergency Nurses (ICEN) will be held in Sydney October 13-15 with the theme of “The Power and the Passion – Leading for the Future”.
CENA has an active Tasmanian branch with representatives on the national board. The Tasmanian branch acknowledge the incredible efforts and contribution of emergency nurses across the state for their role in the continued care of communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The role of emergency nurses in keeping communities safe is to be commended.
