TASTAFE’S DIPLOMA OF NURSING: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Diploma of Nursing is the essential minimum requirement to work as an Enrolled Nurse in Australia.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You’ll develop advanced skills in: Performing clinical assessments Contributing to the care of people with complex needs

Administering and monitoring medications and IV therapy

Effectively communicating with patients and colleagues.

Implementing and monitoring care for people with mental health conditions, and acute and chronic health problems

How to care for older people and patients with complex needs. You will also have the opportunity to undertake three clinical placements in a healthcare facility or hospital where you will get to use your new skills in the real world.

WHERE CAN I STUDY?

TasTAFE offers the Diploma of Nursing at its Clarence (Hobart), Alanvale (Launceston) and Devonport campuses. The course is a mix of on-campus and online learning.

HOW LONG DOES THE COURSE TAKE?

The Diploma of Nursing is a two-year, full-time course.

WHAT SKILLS DO I NEED?

You’ll need a positive health attitude, good literacy and numeracy skills and effective communication and problem-solving skills. You’ll also need basic word processing skills and computer literacy. Most importantly, you’ll need a commitment to learn. The course requires a significant commitment including out of hours study. Work placements may require shift work including nights and weekends.

WHEN IS THE NEXT INTAKE?

TasTAFE has start of year and midyear intake for the Diploma of Nursing. The next intake begins in mid-July 2021.
