More southern sites scoped for COVID vaccination clinics

NEW locations in the state's south are being considered to become Community Vaccination Clinics for adults over 50, the Tasmanian Health Service has said.

The southern Tasmania clinics have operated in Kingston, Rosny, Huonville, Brighton and New Norfolk, but State Health Commander Kathrine Morgan-Wicks said the THS was “investigating additional sites in the south” as the rollout progressed.

“As one clinic closes after delivering first doses, the clinic will move to another location and its community, and then will come back to that first location to deliver second doses 12 weeks later,” she said.

Ms Morgan-Wicks said other southern immunisation centres included a large number of GPs and a GP Respiratory clinic in Derwent Park.

This came as genomic sequencing confirmed a Victorian man caught coronavirus in a South Australian quarantine hotel.

The Department of Health was on Wednesday night probing more than 80 primary close contacts who may have come into contact with the COVIDinfected man across four exposure sites.

Hundreds more footy fans were urged to get tested and immediately isolate after he caught a Craigieburn-bound train from Flinders St at 10.20pm on Friday, coinciding with the end of the Richmond and Geelong blockbuster.

THS has confirmed southern locations and dates are:

Kingston – Goshawk Way – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday – last day May 18 and to return for second doses at a date to be advised.

Rosny – Rosny Park Bowls Club, 40 Bastick St – MonWed – first day May 17 and to run through May and June.

Huonville – 8 Heron St – Fridays – first day May 7 to run until mid next month. Brighton – 25 Greenpoint Rd – Fridays and Saturdays – last day June 11 and to return for second doses at later date. New Norfolk – 30 George St – more dates to be confirmed soon.
