CHARGERS GET DOWN TO BUSINESS AGAINST VALLEY

- LUKE EDMUNDS

THE struggling Hobart Chargers need to take care of business this Friday night.

That’s the message from coach Mark Nash as Hobart’s women’s side welcomes fellow winless NBL1 side Diamond Valley. “It’s at the point where we’ve got no excuses,” Nash said. “This has to be a ‘take care of business’ game.”

Four sides are winless in the NBL1 South division as demand for players outstrips supply but Nash said there were no excuses heading into Friday’s clash.

“Most teams have had players unavailable or injuries to deal with,” he said. “Being no wins from five games is unacceptable for the club.” He said playing a fellow cellar-dweller was the opportunity to build winning form.

“They’re struggling, if you look at the stats we’re ahead in most categories,” Nash said.

The clash could be the last in a Hobart uniform for a long time for leading scorer Maddie Garrick, who has Australian 3-on-3 duties in Austria and potential

Olympic that.

Garrick, who has been averaging 21.6 points, 3.6 assists and nine rebounds, will leave a hole which is unlikely to be filled by import Kathleen Scheer who Nash said was “looking quite unlikely” to be able to get to Australia. He said the club was on a “global search” for Aussie players representation after who overseas.

The NBL1 has also announced it will host the inaugural NBL1 finals over the weekend of September 10-12 in Melbourne.

The champion men’s and women’s side from each of the NBL1’s four divisions will play off over three days. were returning from
