Creativity through collaboration

-

At Fahan School, we are dedicated to creating rich artistic experiences for our girls which allow for the opportunity to extend their creative talents and skills in a variety of imaginative and challenging ways.

The performing arts at Fahan allows for the development of confidence and self-awareness as students explore their creativity and develop skills in collaboration, communication and problem solving. This was evident on Wednesday 23 June and Thursday 24 June, as our Years 5 and 6 students staged four enchanting performances of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins Jr.

Our girls captured the hearts of their audiences over the four sold out shows with many supercalifragilisticexpialidocious adventures and magical moments combined with impressive dance numbers and unforgettable songs. Our Year 4 students sang beautifully as a support choir in this “practically perfect” production.

Based on one of the most popular Disney movies of all time, the production, a version specifically adapted for young performers, was split into two parts: Act I performed by our Year 6 cast, and Act II headlined by our Year 5 girls.

There were many hours of preparation, planning and hard work that went into each and every show and the joy it brought to the community will be remembered for a long time to come.

Our Years 5 and 6 students embraced the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of the performance.

Jemima Geappen, who played a chimney sweep and other characters, said: “I really enjoyed seeing everything finally link and come together from the rehearsals to the live shows.”

Ava Mignanelli, who played Mary Poppins in Act I, said: “I loved the whole journey of bringing Mary

Poppins to life and learning to stay in my character for the whole performance, it was a great experience.”

Mathilda Brown played Robertson Ay in both Acts and enjoyed the live audience: “It has been such a

memorable experience and I felt so proud when I knew my parents or Oma were watching. It was great to show everyone what we had been working on all term!”

Head of Junior School, Amanda Evans, said: “The Years 5 and 6 girls particularly loved working together on this production. Rehearsing, performing, collaborating, strengthening connections and friendships were all part of the Mary Poppins Jr experience for our Junior School girls. The production team at Fahan encouraged the girls to reach for their creative and expressive potential and the performances were truly supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!”
