Six more lives lost to Covid
NSW recorded six deaths and 1218 new local cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, with the escalating outbreak in southwestern Sydney causing extra concern for health authorities.
Among the deaths were three people aged in their 80s and three aged in their 70s.
Four of them were unvaccinated and two of them had had only one dose of the vaccine.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of those six individuals,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said, adding western Sydney and southwestern Sydney remained areas of concern.
Meanwhile, Victoria’s sixth coronavirus lockdown will not end as scheduled next Thursday after the state recorded 92 new locally acquired infections on Sunday. Just 63 cases could be linked to existing outbreaks, while 29 remained under investigation.
