Kit working on transTasman title

- HELEN KEMPTON

A KELPIE from an Oatlands property is the only Tasmanian dog of 12 vying for the title of the hardest working canine in Australia and New Zealand.

Bree How and her dog Kit (pictured) are part of the 2021 Cobber Challenge which sees working dogs fitted with a GPS collar to record the distance, duration and average speed worked.

The Cobber Challenge runs for three weeks and will finish on September 5 with the Cobber Champion announced the next day.

Victorian dog Skyblue Jack is in the lead having clocked up 513.5km to put him in the overall leader position.

The Cobber Challenge is in its sixth year. Organiser Kellie Savage, Cobber’s marketing manager, says the leading dogs are on track to beat the record of 835km, set by Glenda Rogan and dog Buddy last year. People can follow their favourite at www.cobberchallenge.com.au/ leaderboard and on the Cobber Dog Facebook page.
