MILESTONE MAN HELPS STEER OHA INTO DECIDER

- MICHAEL MUNDAY

A FIVE-GOAL haul from centurion Trent Standen has given OHA the opportunity for back-to-back premierships.

OHA will face minor premiers St.Virgils in next Saturdays’ Old Scholars grand final after a 12.12 (84) to 10.10 (70) win over DOSA in the preliminary final at Geilston Bay.

Nicknamed “Speedy”s, the will-o-the-wisp forward kicked three goals in the first quarter as OHA’s midfield, led by Matt Ling, was instrumental in moving the ball more freely and direct, unlike last week.

Ships held a 21-point buffer at quarter time. But DOSA were not to be denied and piled on the pressure in the second quarter, kicking four goals through Justin O’Brien (two goals) and the Fisher brothers (one each) to a solitary Ships goal to Ethan Wish-Wilson.

A melee broke out at halftime, with two players reported (four sin-binned for the first 15 minutes of the third quarter).

DOSA hit the ground running, with the pace of Damon Curtain and Harry Loveless creating havoc. They added four goals to two and led by 12 points entering the last quarter.

But with Alex Brewster and

Damian Paul keeping Roosters elusive forwards Braden Barwick and Michael Fisher in check, Ships stormed forward as Trent Standen kicked his fourth major.

Jack Johnstone added another, Chris Hevey put them in front and Standen iced the cake with his fifth for a 14point win and another shot at the premiership.

University will take on premiers Hutchins in the Reserves grand final after a 15.12 (102) to 9.11 (65) win over St.Virgils while University women advanced to their first grand final, defeating Lindisfarne 9.6 (60) to 3.5 (23).
