Ciggie started porch blaze

A DISCARDED cigarette butt has been blamed for a fire at a George Town house.

Fire crews were called to the Mary St house at 6.45am on Monday after the occupant noticed a small fire in the back porch. Fire crews found the porch well alight but quickly brought the blaze under control, preventing damage to the main house. Investigations found a cigarette butt discarded in a plastic bin at midnight had smouldered before eventually catching the bin alight.
