NURSE’S DESPERATE PLEA

-

A SYDNEY nurse has described the emotional and physical toll of NSW’s Delta outbreak on hospital staff, saying patients in ICU are “the sickest we’ve ever seen”.

NSW on Tuesday has recorded 1164 new locally acquired cases of Covid-19.

There are 871 Covid cases in hospital, with 143 people in intensive care and 58 of those patients requiring ventilation.

Liverpool Hospital is one of the most stretched hospitals in the state with more than 100

Covid patients. Nurse manager at Liverpool Hospital, Michelle Dowd, described the grim conditions for both patients and nurses.

She pleaded with NSW residents to get any vaccine possible, as soon as possible.

“Intensive care units in hospitals are where we look after our sickest, most vulnerable patients,” Ms Dowd said.

“The Delta variant is just that contagious; intensive care patients need one-on-one nursing care.”
