Sixers star books ticket back to Australia

- RUSSELL GOULD

ENGLAND batsman James Vince is not among the cohort of his countrymen threatening to boycott a trip to Australia for the Ashes and has signed on for another BBL season with Sydney Sixers.

Talks between Cricket Australia and English officials are continuing over the quarantine arrangements for the fiveTest series, with the ability for families to travel set to determine whether some star players make the trip.

Vince, who smashed 95 in the Sixers’ BBL final win last summer, has committed to coming and the benefit could be a return to the Test team.

The 30-year-old, who has played all three forms for England, played all five Ashes Tests here four years ago.

He hasn’t played Test cricket since 2018 but was reportedly close to a recall for last week’s third Test against India.

A spot in the England Lions squad to face Australia A in Brisbane on December 9-13 could be another opportunity to press his claims.

It would, however, put a dent in his availability for the Sixers, with the BBL set to start on December 5.

“What the Sixers have built on and off the field over the last few years is something really special and something I am proud to be part of. They are just a great bunch of lads ... I can’t wait to get back to Sydney,” Vince said.

BBL fixtures remain unchanged despite border closures set to force a rejig of the domestic schedule, beginning next month with the one-day cup.
