Poll lift for Labor leader

-

support for the Liberals remains unchanged since the state election but backing for Labor leader Rebecca White has increased slightly, latest opinion polling shows.

Voter intentions polling by EMRS last month revealed 49 per cent of respondents supported the Liberal government, the same as at the election.

Support for the Labor Party was also the same, at 28 per cent, while backing for the Greens increased one percentage point to 13 per cent.

Meanwhile, 59 per cent of people said Peter Gutwein was their preferred premier, down from 61 per cent in February.

Ms White had the support of 29 per cent of respondents, up from 26 per cent six months ago. Polling was conducted on August 7-9, with 1000 adult Tasmanian residents interviewed.

EMRS said due to political events during August that occurred subsequent to the poll, it was delaying commentary until the next polling round.

Former Labor leader David O’Byrne resigned from the role amid an investigation into allegations of harassment when he was a union leader more than a decade ago.
