Where is the bushfire plan for Tolmans Hill?

-

LORD Mayor Anna Reynolds has thrown down the gauntlet to the Department of Police and Emergency Services to generate, quite rapidly, evacuation plans for the fire-prone zones of the city of Hobart. She notes that it cannot be cobbled together as some sort of traffic management issue when the fire is coming over the hill.

Her concerns are abject, and founded in the vision we had of the navy having to evacuate people off the beach in the catastrophic fires on the mainland.

So I would like to know (and so would the Lord Mayor) where the 1000 cars from Tolmans Hill where I live are going to go when we are ordered to evacuate by the Tasmania Fire Service. Where will the police actually direct us to? What areas will be used to part the thousands of cars involved with the evacuation of Tolmans Hill and Mt Nelson and South Hobart?

What road closures will be in place to allow this mass transit? How many police and where will they go to?

These and a range of other issues cannot be decided in 10 minutes on the day. A disaster plan is needed. If the police cannot generate such a plan (and I am sure that they can) then the matter should be urgently referred to parliament for resolution.

We will only get one chance with this, and the plan needs to be published in November 2021. Mervin C Reed, Tolmans Hill
