SUE NEILL-FRASER/ WESTBURY PRISON The time for justice is long overdue

-

TUESDAY night’s brave speech in the Legislative Council by Mike Gaffney MP at last lifts the lid publicly on the can of worms that has been the Sue Neill-Fraser story for 12 long years.

The papers that were tabled in the House and unanimously accepted by all present clearly show the extent of the flaws and worse that many of us supporting Sue since the beginning have known for years.

Some, however, were so well-hidden, they have only recently come to light after the exhausting process of continuing to apply for them through RTI. After close examination by two prominent legal minds, Etter and Selby, the full story is now out, evidence known to some and suppressed or hidden at the trial and since has now been exposed. That evidence would have been exculpatory at Sue’s trial. And the evidence of a young woman, known since 2017, who was treated abominably at the appeal, has now been tabled as well. Maybe she’s believed at last!

Let’s hope the courage shown by Mike Gaffney MP in standing up for justice won’t be swept under the red carpet of the Legislative Council. The annals of Tasmanian history have been badly stained by this case. It’s time, Tasmania, for you to do the right thing! Robin Bowles
