Shooting at school

WASHINGTON: A student was shot and killed on Wednesday at a high school in North Carolina, police said.

Police went to Mount Tabor High School in WinstonSalem in the middle of the school day and found one student who had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital but “succumbed to his injuries”, police said.

After a year of largely remote learning due to the pandemic, US students returning to school this month face a renewed risk of mass shootings, which have plagued the US education system for years.

Wednesday’s shooting was already the second at a North Carolina high school this week.
