OF HISTORY AT MAC POINT

-

“The Europeans must have been extracting teeth and doing something with them on purpose.”

Macquarie Point will hold an open day for people to see the cobbled convict-built surface and wall foundations for themselves.

“This was the industrial hub of Hobart,” Mr Hay said.

“Very few historical records exist from that time.”

Mac Point chief executive Mary Massina hoped the open day would show “history is more than something in a glass box in a foyer”.

“I think it’s an important story for people to understand, and it’s just underneath the surface,” Ms Massina said.

She said the Muwinina people had lived on the land for at least 10,000 years, and hoped the Truth and Reconciliation Art Park would reflect the site’s rich history.

The two public open day sessions will be held on September 11.
