W-LEAGUE SIGNING A SIGN OF HEALTH IN TASMANIAN GAME

-

TASMANIA has another WLeague player, with Lucy Johnson signing with the Newcastle Jets.

Johnson is the third Tasmanian footballer to join a team in the W-League after

Meghan Archer (Melbourne

Victory) and Aimee Medwin (Melbourne

City), and the second Tasmanian to join Newcastle Jets after Andy Brennan.

Previously a player for Olympia Warriors and Hobart Zebras, Johnson joins the Jets from South Melbourne FC.

Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said it was great to see another Tasmanian flying the flag for the state in the nation’s highest level of competition. “Lucy was a tremendous player in the Women’s Super League for Olympia and Zebras and it’s wonderful to see her progress her game even further since then,” Bulkeley said.

He said it was another sign of the growth of Tasmanian women’s football. “Women’s football has gone from strength-to-strength in Tasmania in recent years, with Women’s Super League expanding to be a truly statewide competition,” he said.
