RIGHT ROYAL COST
THE Governor’s official secretary clarifies that the Governor’s salary is $511,000, not $622,000 (Letters, September 2). Is that supposed to make us feel better? I’ll go out on a limb and claim that most Australians think allegiance to the Queen is an anachronism, but that there are more important things to worry about. But when we realise the Governor’s $4.5m budget equates to 112 minimum-wage jobs, and when we are reminded of the Governor’s exclusive use of a massive house, numerous outbuildings, and several hectares of magnificent gardens, maybe change starts to become a priority.
