BEAMING OVER AIRBNB AWARD

- DAMITA LAMONT

A LUXURIOUS West Hobart Airbnb has been awarded Australia’s Best Designed Stay.

The impeccably styled guest accommodation called Slow Beam won the award in the inaugural Airbnb Host Awards.

After living in Melbourne and regularly travelling to Hobart to visit family, Slow Beam hosts Lauren Bamford and Keith Mason said they struggled to find boutique accommodation options in the city.

“We wanted our own place and decided to build something that reflected what we were looking for, so the property was certainly created with hospitality and that perfect stay in mind,” Lauren said.

Slow Beam is an architecturally designed house with every window carefully considered by designer Hearth Studio and the result includes river and city views and glimpses of the natural sandstone and bush surroundings.

Striking decor was a key theme when designing the accommodation.

“We both agreed we wanted moody, sophisticated but unconventional spaces which is why we didn’t hold back,” Ms Bamford said.

“The black walls, bold patterns, designer furnishings and art were all deliberately chosen to create a truly unique getaway location – it’s certainly not subtle.

“The placement and scale combined with the black framing from the walls draws you into the views of the bush, river and city – it’s the perfect place to just sit and take in the beauty of Hobart.”

Tasmanian stays featured prominently across the six award categories, with Bruny Island Hideaway a finalist for Best Unique Stay, Paradise Road Farm in Sheffield a finalist for Best Regional Stay, Hobart host Patsy Davies of The Wombat Studio was a finalist for Host of the Year, and the Tasmanian Wilderness Adventure was a finalist in the Most Magical Experience category.
