Big Huntingfield project goes public

- ROSEMARY MURPHY

THE development application for the Huntingfield residential subdivision is set to be advertised for the public.

The residential subdivision includes 470 new homes built on the eastern side of the Channel Highway. Of the new homes, 15 per cent will be reserved for new social housing through Communities Tasmania.

Kingborough Council development services manager Tasha Tyler-Moore said she expected the DA to be advertised this week.

“We will be advertising the application for a period of three weeks instead of the two-week period, which are able to do under the (Land Use and Planning Approvals) Act, given the complexity of the application and large quantity of reports that have to go with,” she said.

Kingborough Council environment, development and community director Katrena Stephenson said the latest application details showed there were 219 lots in stage one of the development.

At Monday’s council meeting Kingborough Mayor Paula Wriedt said residents had raised concerns about the impact the development would have on nearby schools.

She said a meeting would be held between Huntingfield residents on site with Housing Minister Michael Ferguson in coming weeks.
