THE BIG QUESTIONS

THE degree to which UTAS might revitalise the Hobart CBD has as much to do with what it teaches as how well it teaches. It has to do with the role universities should play in society. With the demise of the humanities and the rise of the modern university as a job factory, it’s unlikely we’ll see a lot of accounting or dentistry students sitting in cafes until all hours asking the big questions of life, which every generation has to discover for itself.
