CHARLIE GETS PAT ON THE HEAD FOR BUZZ CUT

- JUDY AUGUSTINE

TWENTY-ONE Hutchins students are sporting fresh buzz-cuts after shaving their heads on Wednesday to raise money for cancer research and support.

Charlie Harris, 13, was one of the brave boys who walked away with a close shave. Charlie said he did it for his brother Ned, who suffers Leukaemia.

“I did it to help my brother and other Australians who have blood cancer,’’ Charlie said.

“My personal goal was to raise $350 but we smashed that and raised $1700.”

Charlie’s mother, Alice Harris, said

Ned had lost his hair twice. “It’s something Charlie could actually do to show Ned he was supporting him,” Mrs Harris said.

“Ned loved it, he loved patting his head. It wasn’t the best shave so we’re going to the hairdresser to get it fixed up.”

She said the Leukaemia Foundation had been a big help to the family. “The foundation has been amazing for us, the most important thing was to help educate us,” Mrs Harris said.

“The foundation also gives you emotional support, they put you in touch with people who can help you.”

The Hutchins team raised more than $14,000 to support the Leukaemia Foundation.
