GUTFUL OF SALMON

-

What is Premier Gutwein saying? In David Killick’s article on Wednesday “Book take down of Salmon Farms ‘damage our brand’ – I find it difficult to understand what Mr Gutwein is saying. If he has suddenly realised that he doesn’t “want to see the salmon industry suffering the same fate as the forestry industry” – then he has been deaf to the mantra the last few years that the salmon industry is another Gunns in the making. And what was the fate of the forestry industry he refers to? Perhaps that the public wrested some modicum of control over the desecration of our old growth forests?

Perhaps Mr Gutwein doesn’t want to see the salmon industry suffering that forestry fate as that may mean that the public can wrench from the government some modicum of control on the desecration of our public waterways and enable some protection from the environmental destruction being caused by the salmon industry.

If our Premier finds Flanagan’s comments “difficult to manage in a public sense” – then perhaps our Premier should look at the public angst over the expansions of the salmon farms and the possible takeover of Huon by JBS – and realise that the public have had enough of government control of unsustainable industries that it promotes.
