SPRING INTO RACE SEASON

- DAMITA LAMONT

WITH the Covid-19 pandemic keeping many borders closed, one Hobart fashionista has been busy dreaming up bespoke creations she will model in her frontyard.

Ellie Sheridan was the 2019 Tasmanian finalist in the Myer Melbourne Cup Carnival Fashions on the Field competition and is now looking to take part in the Covid-friendly Myer Fashions on your Front Lawn.

Competitors can submit their photos online, with state winners chosen along with the overall winner, emerging designer and millinery awards. Categories include family ties, Cup Week costumes and Cup Week casual, prior to the final event on November 4.

“I was so inspired by the incredible fusions of the classic and contemporary, the bold and the ultrafeminine, and the mix of personal style with seasonal trends,” Ms Sheridan said.

For a tried and tested winning formula, Ms Sheridan has these tips.

“Putting together a standout outfit is all about finding the perfect balance between these things and truly making it your own,” she said.

“Customise each element where you can and find a way to put your own personality into what you wear.

“Textures also play a huge role in the execution of a beautiful outfit and shouldn’t be ignored.”

There are more than $100,000 in prizes for both the women’s and men’s racewear national winners.

To enter, upload photos to fashionsonyourfrontlawn.com. au from Saturday. Participants are also encouraged to share their entry on social media platforms, tagging @FlemingtonVRC and #cupweekfashion
