Barnett slams native logging ban
RESOURCES Minister Guy Barnett has rejected the idea of following the Western Australian government and putting a stop to native forest logging in Tasmania.
Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan announced on Wednesday his state would ban native forest logging by 2024 and instead invest in plantations.
Mr Barnett criticised the move and ruled out Tasmania doing the same.
“It is so disappointing for the forest industry in Western Australia, you can’t trust
Labor,” Mr Barnett said on Thursday.
He claimed Tasmania’s industry was sustainable.
“We are backing in the forestry industry here in Tasmania,” he said.
“For every tree harvested, one is planted.”
