WARNING OVER PROPERTY BURN-OFFS

THE Tasmania Fire Service is calling on locals to prepare their homes ahead of bushfire season after crews were called to more than 20 vegetation fires in the past week.

Four of the blazes were escaped burns that were not registered with the TFS.

“Burning off on your own land can be an effective way to reduce the bushfire risk on your property, but if you are planning on burning please register your burn and check any restrictions with your local council,” TFS Deputy Chief Officer Jeff Harper said.

Residents who are wanting to conduct their own hazard reduction burns are encouraged to do so when winds are light and temperatures are low.
