Burnett St apartment on the up

- ROB INGLIS

DEVELOPERS of a North Hobart apartment block – that is approved and partly built – want to add another storey to the multimillion-dollar project.

Hobart City Council’s Planning Committee will meet tonight to consider a plan to add a sixth floor to the Burnett St block.

Developers Hobart Properties and Securities want to add the extra storey to accommodate eight more units, bringing the total to 65 on the site.

Council officers have raised parking concerns.

GUESTS staying at Cradle Mountain Lodge at the weekend were shocked to see the place blanketed with snow on Sunday morning, as falls down to 600m were recorded across the state.

Spring may have arrived but those staying at the famed accommodation woke up to a winter wonderland on Sunday, duty manager Sagar Dhakal said.

“They [the guests] were very surprised because they got to witness all the seasons that we get here in Cradle Mountain,” Mr Dhakal said.

“Because it was raining and snowing, and we had a bit of sun, as well, and it was windy, too.

“We had quite a few guests who were really surprised at getting to experience snow in the middle of the spring. So they were really happy with that.”

Mr Dhakal said Cradle Mountain Lodge had dealt with a number of booking cancellations as a result of Tasmania’s borders being closed to NSW and Victoria, but tourists from Queensland and South Australia were still flocking to the place.

Hobart recorded a maximum temperature of 13C on Sunday.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Belinda House said south-westerly to southerly winds had brought a cold front across Tasmania, with showers in most parts of the state throughout the day.

“It’s going to clear away Monday fairly rapidly,” Ms House said.

“So we’re going to see the winds turn around to south to south-easterly on Monday.

“But come evening time Monday, there won’t be very much shower activity left at all.”

She said frosty conditions were expected on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
