HEALTHY INTEREST IN KIDS EXPO
MOONAH’S Bowen Road Primary School has hosted a health expo as a part of its HealthLit4Kids program.
Students created posters and other displays to show their understanding of health and wellbeing.
Local health and community organisations were also invited into the school to share information on their services.
Five schools across the state are participating in the HealthLit4Kids program which is designed to raise awareness of health literacy and encourage discussions about health among teachers, children, families and communities.
Program co-founder and University of Tasmania public health lecturer Rosie Nash said a school-wide action plan was implemented in 2018 to roll out the program across the curriculum and the wider school environment.
“Since the plan was developed, the school has continued the program focus where last year students developed toolboxes to help them to manage their reactions to Covid-19 lockdown,” she said.
Dr Nash said the expo provided an opportunity for students to showcase their knowledge and also increase their understanding.
“This year, the school wanted to involve the broader community to help raise awareness of health and wellbeing,” she said.
