MOMENTUM is building for the state’s newest sports franchise with the Tasmania JackJumpers unveiling one of its star imports in Hobart on Wednesday.

American Josh Adams became a part of JackJumpers history earlier this year when he became the first import to sign with Tasmania’s new NBL franchise and the guard said he was thrilled to finally arrive in his new home.

“This is an incredible experience for me and I’m very excited, “he said.

“I’ve never received such a warm welcome from staff and the people and players and so I’m very excited to be here and overall really happy with what’s going on.”

The 27-year-old said after months of phone calls and messages between he and his coach, Scott Roth, and after spending two weeks in quarantine in a Sydney hotel, it was great finally beginning his journey as a JackJumper.

“I’m really excited ... we spent a lot of time on Facetime and had a lot of communications and to finally get down here and spend time around the guys and see the

system he’s been telling me about is very exciting,” he said.

“The welcome I’ve received from everyone has been fantastic and I’ll tell you has already reignited my passion (for basketball) very quickly.”

The former US college star has played professionally in numerous leagues around the world, including in the NBA G- League in the 2018-19 season where he averaged 15.6 points, 4.4 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Adams defines himself as a combo guard and can score and pass the ball at a high

level and said he’s ready to do whatever it takes to bring success and make Tasmanians proud of the JackJumpers.

“I’m an energy guy that brings a lot of positivity and highlight plays and whatever is asked of me I’m ready to provide it and ready to make the fans happy and proud of the imports and the team we are putting together,” he said.

Adding to the momentum of Adams’ arrival was the announcement that the JackJumpers had signed its 10th major sponsor for its debut season with SRT Logistics coming on board as the official ‘Coaches Partner.’

SRT Logistics CEO Robert Miller said he was excited to be a part of the team.

“We are a very proud family-owned Tasmanian business that relies on the support of businesses throughout our state, so we feel this is a great way to give back to our community by supporting their team,” Miller said.

“Just like the JackJumpers, SRT is proud to be ‘humble and hungry’ and we are excited to help all Tasmanians feel a part of the JackJumpers journey.”

The NBL season is currently scheduled to start in mid-November.
