HOBART POCKET ROCKET PROMISES TO HIT QUEENSLANDER WITH HER FIRST DEFEAT

- JARROD LAWLER

SOME of the state’s best boxers will step into the ring next month for a boxing showcase featuring two title fights and the boxing debut of a Tasmanian former UFC fighter.

The Havoc at the Hall event will take place at Hobart City Hall on October 30 and feature a host of the state’s best boxing talent including Hobart pocket rocket Krystina “Mousey” Jacobs who in 2018 became the first female boxer from Tasmania to turn professional. Jacobs will fight undefeated Queenslander Bec Hawker for the ANBF Australasian featherweight title which will be the first time that belt has been fought for on Tassie soil.

The 26 year-old Jacobs was confident in her preparation and didn’t mince words when discussing her opponent. “She’s undefeated and highly ranked around Australia so when I beat her I hope I can be as highly ranked as they rate her,” she said. I know she can go to war but I know I can outbox her so that’s what I’m going to do.

“She’s undefeated and doesn’t know what it’s like to lose yet but that’s coming.”

In the other title fight Hobart’s Jayden “Plugger” Joseph will step into the ring for the final time when he takes on fellow Tasmanian Rob Wilkinson for the vacant Tasmanian heavyweight title. Joseph has decided to call time on his boxing career to spend more time with his family but said he plans to go out on top.

“I’ll be retiring after this fight so we are going out with a bang to finish off,” he said.

“I want to win this fight and win it well and finish with the Tasmanian heavyweight title.” Joseph’s opponent is fellow Hobartian Rob Wilkinson who has made a name for himself internationally as a mixed martial artist, having had two fights in the UFC.

As well as the two title fights the event will feature an amateur undercard along with three other professional bouts featuring Tasmanians Bo Belbin, Layton Mcferran, Chris Drummond and Joseph Corner.
