Clubs’ joy at extra cash boost
FOOTBALL clubs, gymnastics committees and cycling organisations are among the 94 sporting groups accessing tranche four of the state’s Covid-19 Sport and Recreation Grants Program
Sport and Recreation Minister Jane Howlett said the clubs would access between $3000 and $25,000 each in grants from a pool of $870,000.
“It’s all about enabling Tasmanians to participate in sport,” she said. “Quite often it is the glue that brings communities together.”
Clubs scoring a slice of the funds include Riverside Olympic Football Club for portable soccer equipment, Kingborough Gymnastics Committee for new safety matting, Hobart Wheelers Dirt Devils for a cycling race timing system, Orford Golf Club for a greens mower and Deloraine Bowls Club for a greens roller.
Van Diemen Archers president John Pollard said his club’s $8400 funding was significant.
“It means it can help us buy new equipment in the way of bows, arrows, targets, refurbish the grounds,” he said.
