COUNCIL WANTS COPS 24/7

-

THE Kingborough Council will lobby the state government for a police presence 24 hours a day, seven days a week to address the growth of the municipality.

The motion moved by Councillor Clare GladeWright, who said there was significant community desire for a police station in Kingborough.

“Kingborough is a safe municipality and this motion isn’t in response to necessarily to a need, it’s more about recognising Kingborough is one of the fastest growing municipalities and that the police presence should be aligning with that growth,” Ms Glade-Wright said.

Kingborough Mayor Paula Wriedt said it was a “top-ofmind issue” for many in the community.

“The intent of this motion is that there is a 24 hour presence there and within our community so that in the event of something occurring that the community can be assured there will be a prompt response to it” Ms Wriedt said.

The motion to lobby the state government was passed 6-3. judy.augustine@news.com.au
