Shutdown snapshot
HOW LONG IS THE SHUTDOWN FOR?
The construction shutdown began on Monday night and will finish in two weeks at 11.59pm on October 4.
WHO DOES IT IMPACT?
The shutdown applies to worksites across Melbourne, Ballarat, Geelong, Mitchell Shire and the Surf Coast. Large worksites to home builds and renovations are impacted. The mandatory vaccination requirement applies to every person performing work at a construction site, including volunteers.
WHAT ARE THE PLANS FOR REOPENING IN TWO WEEKS TIME?
When construction resumes, workers will be required to have proof of at least one vaccination and sites must be able to prove they have a Covid-safe plan.
WHY WAS CONSTRUCTION SHUT DOWN?
The industry was shut down due to continued concern about case numbers, transmission risk and low compliance levels. The immediate shutdown was taken to reduce movement, minimise transmission and allow for the entire industry to adapt to health orders, including getting vaccinated.
ARE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS GIVEN VACCINE PRIORITY?
Yes. A construction worker vaccination blitz will continue until September 26. Tradies can get vaccinated at key sites.
