Senator off mark with terror push
SENATOR Chandler’s latest Talking Point Article is an example of the “dog whistling” that the far right of Australian politics so often engages in.
The Senator wants tougher laws dealing with terrorism.
In fact, Australia already has some of the most draconian antiterrorism laws.
Recent examples have shown how they are aimed at journalists, whistleblowers and the legal profession for simply doing their jobs.
Australia ranks 25th on the Global Press Freedom Index – below countries such as Suriname and Samoa, which are noted for their dictatorial presidents.
I suggest Senator Chandler’s energy be directed towards more serious threats to Australia, such as climate change.
