Divine property for sale
A HISTORIC church overlooking the Tamar River in Launceston is up for sale.
Services began at St Oswald’s Church at the Trevallyn site in 1894.
In 1927, when space became an issue, a former Wesleyan Church was purchased and moved next to St Oswald’s to be used as a church hall.
Knight Frank Northern Tasmania residential partner Sam Woolcock said the heritage listed church and hall, pictured, reflected Victorian traditions.
“St Oswald’s possesses a classic, steeply gabled roof with an original interior featuring the natural beauty of soaring timber ceilings and an elegant vestry,” he said.
“The deck, with its stunning outlooks, is the link to the church hall, where natural light, hardwood floors, a modern kitchen zone and rest room facilities complement its captivating sense of further potential.”
St Oswald’s was designed by noted architect Alexander North who designed churches across the state.
The church can be used for residential, professional or commercial purposes.
It is located close to Cataract Gorge, Trevallyn Primary School, and the city centre.
“This is a property with a divine past and a desirable future, however the purchaser chooses to define it,” Mr Woolcock said.
Earlier this year the Christ Church and neighbouring Milton Hall in central Launceston were also put on the market.
