It is incredible that the Morrison government is happy to expend billions of tax-payer dollars to change a submarine contract under the guise of national security, while being prepared to risk the lives of a young Tamil family fleeing persecution if sent back to Sri Lanka.

The authority to jump ship on the French contract, in the pursuit of the new one, rested in the ministers responsible.

In the same way, the Minister for Immigration has the authority and power to abandon a hard-line, inflexible and heartless policy by granting a permanent visa to the Biloela family.
