Daniher all smiles after win

-

DEMONS great Neale Daniher couldn’t wipe the smile off his face after Melbourne’s historic premiership triumph.

Daughter Bec said the win “was a long time coming” for both the club and her father, who coached the Demons for 10 seasons between 1998 and 2007.

“I was watching it with Neale and Mum, we’ve moved in with them for a couple of weeks. So it was really special being able to sit beside him when he was not pacing around the living room and to witness a smile that just couldn’t be taken off his face,” she said.

Daniher (above) took Melbourne to a grand final as coach in 2000 but the Demons went down to Essendon by eight goals.

“I think it was really special for him to see the Dees take it one step further than they were able to in 2000,” Ms Daniher said.

Ms Daniher, the campaign director for FightMND, works closely with her father on the charity, said the win would inspire her dad to keep up his battle against Motor Neurone Disease which he was diagnosed with in 2013.
