- DAMITA LAMONT

SHRIEKS of “bazinga” and raucous laughter could be heard across the state over the weekend, when Tasmania Police constable Sheldon Cooper connected with the young television namesake.

A Tasmania Police post on its Facebook account drew more than 6300 reactions when it referred to a North-West Coast police officer named Sheldon Cooper. The post received a response from child actor Iain Armitage, who plays a character of the same name on television series Young Sheldon.

The post, which went up on 7.27am Saturday, referred to the snow discovered while patrolling the Hampshire area and comments soon became excitable with this celebrity connection.

“Hello, Constable Sheldon Cooper!!!” actor Iain Armitage said.

“Iain Armitage we hope you follow in Constable Sheldon Cooper’s Footsteps and join Tasmania Police when you grow up!” a Tasmania Police Facebook moderator said.

“Tasmania Police it doesn’t take a genius to see it would be an excellent choice! Tasmania looks beautiful!” Iain said. “Iain Armitage if acting doesn’t work out and you want a career change, we literally have a badge with your name on it!” the moderator said.

The public quickly joined in with posts of celebration of the character’s catchcry “bazinga”, such as Jen Jack who said “My son would like to know if Constable Sheldon Cooper ever says ‘bazinga’?”

Amzies Bessell said: “I bet he’s into science as a hobby.”
