THANK you, Don Knowler, for your weekly column. I always read it and enjoy it very much! In fact, I cut it out to save each week. I wish you would publish a book of past columns. You, Charles Wooley and Simon Bevilacqua are the sole reason we continue to subscribe to the paper version of the Mercury.

With reference to your column this week on magpies, I just read a Young Readers edition of Penguin Bloom by Chris Kunz. It is a lovely positive (based on true) story about a magpie that helps a family overcome a tragedy. I hope you read it and perhaps do another column on magpies; how smart they are and their ability to understand human emotions and to communicate.
